New York-born multi-instrumentalist and composer Tomoki Sanders announces their debut solo album, Visage: The Third Eye, arriving 12th February 2027.
Bringing together spiritual exploration, improvisation and the rich traditions of Black American Music, the album sees Sanders pushing beyond musical conventions to explore themes of identity, self-discovery and creative freedom.
Following the release of lead single ‘The Third Eye’ in June and ‘Jazz Is Just A Game’ in September, featuring Nicholas Payton and Mélanie Charles, Sanders now shares ‘Tranquil Memories (Memories of Rodney James)’, a heartfelt tribute to their close friend, saxophonist and beat producer Rodney James-Spann, who passed away in April 2025.
Blending straight-ahead jazz with the rhythmic pulse of acid jazz, the track reflects on friendship, memory and the enduring connections we hold with those we’ve lost.
“Rather than mourning his loss, ‘Tranquil Memories’ celebrates the beauty of knowing that someone so gifted, inspiring, and deeply loved existed in this world and that I had the privilege of calling him my friend.” – Tomoki Sanders
The child of legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, Tomoki has carved out their own musical path, collaborating with artists including Kassa Overall, Ravi Coltrane, Taylor McFerrin and Jack DeJohnette. With Visage: The Third Eye, they bring their expansive musical influences and personal experiences together in a bold debut solo statement.
‘Tranquil Memories (Memories of Rodney James)’ is out now.
