Many have tried to define London through music, but few encapsulate the sound of the capital today as eloquently as oreglo – a rising, genre-defying four-piece made up of c-sé (keys), Linus Barry (guitar), Nicco Rocco (drums) and Teigan Hastings (tuba).
‘Passion Dance’, their latest single, takes inspiration from the McCoy Tyner classic of the same name, however the group have taken it in a new direction, creating a brand new version laced with their iconic Dub, Rock and Jazz influenced sounds. We also have a first in the oreglo discography, with c-sé taking to the mic in the second half of the track for a grime influenced breakdown.
Speaking on the new single, oreglo tell us; “Our new track ‘Passion Dance’ offers a fresh take on the McCoy Tyner classic; instead of arranging a contemporary tune into a jazz configuration, we’ve taken a jazz tune and flipped it on its head. It’s theatre, grime, jazz and rock meeting at a centrepoint, to paint a picture of who we are as oreglo!”
Previous releases from oreglo include their debut EP ‘Not Real People’ which was released in summer of 2024, chronicling what it’s like to be young and searching for an identity in London today. As well as the ‘Not Real People DLC’ – an extended version released shortly after. This project solidified them as ones to watch, which has been further confirmed by recent articles from Vogue, Billboard UK and NME who have all sung their praises. At the beginning of this year they were also included in Zane Lowe’s 25 for ‘25 list on Apple Music, a positive start for what is set to be an exciting year for this group.
‘Passion Dance’ marks the start of a new era for oreglo. They’ve spent the last 6 months honing in on their sound and brand and are now coming back with a bang, taking their already incredible musicality to a whole new level.
