In honour of Record Store Day 2025, we are excited to announce that we will be releasing Brownswood Remix Editions 005: A Dig into the Archive.
“Record Store Day is a day for the people who make up the world of the record shop – the staff, the customers, the artists, the labels – to come together and honour the special role they place in their local communities.”
Brownswood Remix Editions 005 is a celebration of the label’s longstanding tradition of exceptional remixes, revisiting its archives with a spirit of exploration and reverence. Highlighting two cherished reworkings, this fifth installment in the Remix Editions series showcases reinterpretations of tracks by Joe Claussell featuring Daymé Arocena and Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band—timeless examples of Brownswood’s commitment to genre-defying, forward-thinking music.
Side A: Joe Claussell feat. Daymé Arocena – Yambú (Sacred Rhythm Mix)
Joe Claussell’s Sacred Rhythm Mix of Yambú transforms the track into a deep, spiritual journey. Infused with intricate percussion and Daymé Arocena’s enchanting vocals, this rework captures the essence of Afro-Cuban traditions while embracing the rhythmic dynamism of contemporary electronic music.
Side B: Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band – The Rumba Experiment (Motor City Drum Ensemble Remix)
Danilo Plessow aka Motor City Drum Ensemble’s remix of The Rumba Experiment brings an infectious, groove-laden reinterpretation to Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band. With its signature blend of soulful house and intricate percussion, the remix breathes new life into the original, seamlessly bridging the worlds of jazz, Cuban rhythms, and deep house.
