Today, breakthrough London band oreglo share their new EP THE WHIRR via Brownswood Recordings.
Many have tried to define London through music, but few encapsulate the sound of the capital today as eloquently as oreglo – a rising, genre-defying three-piece made up of Linus Barry (guitar), Nicco Rocco (drums) and Teigan Hastings (tuba). Through their music they introduce themselves as a boundless musical experiment endlessly indebted to the city they call home.
Now known for their ambitious experimentalism, THE WHIRR finds oreglo pushing the limits of their sound even further than before, redefining modern jazz – across the project, cacophonous rock directly contrasts gentle, retro melodies. THE WHIRR features the previously released tracks ‘Bosté’ and ‘The Whirr’ and arrives following the band supporting Bricknasty on their UK tour.
oreglo share: “THE WHIRR is an important and exciting record for us. We actively are experimenting with incorporating heavier and darker sounds, as well as using our voices as another instrument in the mix. We’ve definitely taken more risks in hope of finding something more unique than the last record. This record feels more direct and hardhitting, as well as giving the production side a more dense, meticulous and expansive sound. We moved away from the traditional ‘head and solos’ jazz approach and towards a more linear, song-led way of writing. It’s the sound of one era closing and the next one beginning.”
The EP also comes in gorgeous black and blue vinyl, you can order yours here!
