Auntie Flo is an award-winning sound artist, DJ, music producer and live performer. His compositions fuse field recording from around the globe with electro-acoustic production techniques to create ‘acoustic ecologies’ that are centred on exploring the psychological and physical benefits of sound.
Born in Glasgow and based in London, with a heritage that traces back to Goa and Kenya, his music has taken him to cities and towns the world over, providing the opportunity for collaborations and exposure to fresh pockets of creativity. Both in his own music, and as a DJ, he channels an exciting scope of influences. The Highlife parties he co-founded in Glasgow, for example, brought a new approach to the city: playing records outside the house, techno and disco styles then the norm in the city’s clubs, they put an emphasis on music spanning from West Africa to Latin America.
He was also the winner of the SAY Award for ‘Radio Highlife’ in 2019, and Electronic Musician of the Year by Nordoff Robbins, cementing him as a central figure in a ‘new strand of club music fusing electronic and world influences’.
