Known for his innovative approach to Afro-Brazilian music, fejao is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who grew up in the favelas of Brazil, immersed in samba circles, baile funk parties and the spiritual rituals of capoeira. This track is inspired by fejao’s journey from Brazil to London, “Brasil da Capoeira” reflects his desire to honour the traditions he grew up with while embracing the sounds of the city he now calls home.
Samtheman is an innovative producer, DJ and co-founder of Brighter Days Family alongside IZCO. Born and raised in Hackney, Samtheman draws inspiration from the musical histories of Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas, combining these influences with London’s ever-evolving club culture.
The collaboration on this track grew from a shared interest in exploring the connections between traditional Brazilian rhythms and London’s diverse musical landscape, and a shared interest in capoeira. Built around the rhythms and spirit of this incredible martial art, the song explores themes of resilience, freedom and community. A defining feature of the track is fejao’s performance on the berimbau, the iconic instrument of capoeira, woven throughout Samtheman’s genre-blurring production.

Living in London has changed how I experience my music, but it has also deepened my love for my roots. Working with Samtheman gave us the chance to bring that side of Brazil to life, giving it a fresh, modern energy.”
